PEG MCCARTHY'S IRISH SODA BREAD

From the kitchen of Great Grandmother Margaret "Peg" Flynn McCarthy, adapted by Paula McCarthy

Ingredients

Yield: 1 loaf

1 1/3 cup buttermilk 

4 cups sifted flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon baking powder

½  cup sugar

¾ cup rasins

1 stick butter

Directions

Step One
Heat oven to 350° fahrenheit

Step Two
Mix flour, salt, sugar, baking soda, and baking powder in a bowl or mixer. Add raisins.

Step Three
Gradually add the buttermilk while slowly mixing. Mix well, batter should become sticky.

Step Four
Form the batter into a ball and flatten with your hand.

Step Five
Bake on a greased cookie sheet about 45 minutes until browned.
